This tab contains more advanced settings that do not directly relate to render quality or effects. These settings influence render strategies and caching behavior. For a more comprehensive description of the following parameters please consult your renderer’s reference manual. Most of these settings can have quite an influence on render time and memory usage, depending on your scene and the renderer used. Manipulating these values is no trivial matter so make sure you know what you’re doing before making any changes!

 Render Strategy

Bucket Size X [2..128]

Use this setting to define the size of the render buckets.

Grid Size [4..4096]
Grid Size [4..4096]

Use this setting to define the size of the grid that will dice each object. The default value works well in conjunction with the default Bucket Size value.

Defines the render sequence of the "Render Buckets".

Eye Splits [0..64]

This setting can be somewhat difficult to understand. It is commonly used among REYES renderers but has not been part of the PRMan renderer since version 11. A thorough explanation of this setting can, however, be found in the following book: "Advanced RenderMan® renderer: Creating CGI for Motion Pictures”.

Tip:
The bottom line is that you might experience problems with large objects crossing the eye plane (like ground planes) not rendering at all or only in part. This can be remedied by adding more detail to the geometry for example, if you are using a large one-polygon ground plane, try subdividing the plane. If this doesn’t help (or if you do not want to apply this solution) try increasing the number of Eye Splits. Be careful when doing so since applying a very high value can slow render times tremendously.

Other renders such as or AR and PRman do not have this problem.
