Spherical and Cylindrical Projection

These projection types are quite commonly used because they only generate a visible seam where the left and right edges of the material meet. This seam can often be rotated out of sight by simply rotating the projection itself. In the case of a textured human head, the seam would be moved to the back of the head or the neck region.

These projection types are however a little problematic at an object’s poles or on a cylinder’s caps surfaces. These materials will bundle at these areas and can appear very distorted.
