Cloth Tag

Tip:Note that a new cloth system (incl. Soft Bodies) has been added to the known tags in Cinema 4D S26 / 2023.0. You can switch between the new and old systems in the Basic tab using the Legacy Sover option.

The Cloth tag integrates the following main functions that can be created by selecting the respective tag (useful settings specific to a function will be made):

Note that it appears to be 3 tags but all 3 functions are included in the Cloth tag. Different options will be activated that can be modified at any time. Many parameters are used by all functions, e.g., Bendiness, Stretchiness, Friction, etc., that have their own purpose and function for textiles, balloons and Soft Bodies.

The Cloth tag icon in the Object Manager is dynamic in the sense that it will change its appearance based on different settings made in the tag itself, depending on its primary functionality. For example, the icon for the tag will change once the simulation has been cached. This clearly identifies what's going on with the cloth at any time.

When the icon is displayed as above, the cloth object or garment is in a dress state. This means that the cloth object will only be allowed to drape to a character or be relaxed from real world forces.

After a simulation has been cached, or the calculations have been stored in RAM, the icon will look as shown above. When the icon is in this state only the cached solution will be played back. This icon will also appear when the Cache Mode option on the tag Properties page is enabled.

The icon of the tag will also change its appearance when the Cloth Engine option in the Basic tab is disabled. The dark gray cloth icon represents that the Cloth Engine option has been disabled.

Attention:When using Sub-Frame Motion Blur or the Physical Renderer’s motion blur, the cloth simulation must be saved using the Cache tab's settings to make the effect visible. A saved solution is also required when using Cinema 4D Team Render.
