Troubleshooting the Asset Browser
You may occasionally experience problems accessing assets listed in the Asset Browser. For example, they can't be loaded. This page shows you some possible solutions.
There are some clues in the Asset Browser that will tell you the nature of the error. These are displayed in the form of icons in the hit list. If you hover the cursor over such an icon, a text will be displayed. An example of this text would be "This content is only available for Maxon One subscribers" (see below). When you click on the icon, you will be directed to a page with possible solutions.
So, what can happen?
The download does not work
- Internet connection: The assets are initially located on a Maxon server and must first be downloaded. Check your Internet connection.
- Compatibility: Possibly an asset is not compatible with your Cinema 4D version. For example, an asset can use Nodes that are not yet implemented in your version. Then switch to a newer Cinema 4D version using the Maxon App.
- Licensing: Possibly the asset does not match your license. This could be due to the following reasons:
- You may not have activated the correct license. You can then activate the correct license in the Maxon app.
- Some assets require a Maxon One license and are not included in the normal Cinema 4D license. Maxon One contains all Maxon products and includes, in addition to Cinema 4D, many other tools such as the Red Giant Tools, ZBrush, Forger, but also Capsules, which extend the functionality of Cinema 4D, as well as high-quality Redshift materials and much more.
To upgrade to Maxon One, you can do so in your user account https://my.maxon.net under "Subscriptions" (s.a. here).
The asset does not work
- Is your program version compatible with the asset? For example, assets can use Nodes that are not yet implemented in your version. Then switch to a newer Cinema 4D version using the Maxon App.
- Assets can themselves also contain assets and these in turn can contain other assets. Numerous nested assets are possible. If even one asset is incompatible with your program version, it will not work. Then switch to a newer Cinema 4D version using the Maxon App.
- The same applies if an asset contains an asset that does not match your license (or an asset reserved for Maxon ONE ). Solution: see above. under "Licensing".
- Most assets have dependencies on other elements that are linked within the asset, for example: think of materials that use textures or effectors that evaluate sound files. Go to " Access/Other" in the Asset Browser to find the default smart search "Incomplete Assets". You can also use this to have missing items listed.
If Cinema 4D does not have access to these elements - in the hit list such an asset is marked with a question mark - the asset will not work. The Asset Browser shows you a list of all these dependencies in the details pane ("Dependencies" tab) and highlights missing ones, possibly the Project Asset Inspector can also help you find missing files. Make sure that Cinema 4D gets access to missing elements.
- Is a plug-in missing? Assets may have been created under the effect of a plug-in. If you have not installed the respective plug-in, have not licensed it correctly, or it does not work for some other reason, the asset will not work properly either. In the hit list, such an asset is displayed with an exclamation mark icon ("missing dependencies"). In such cases, you need to make sure that the plug-in is running on the respective computer.
- Is the asset downloaded? Is there an Internet connection so that assets can be downloaded from the Maxon databases?
