# Layer Controls

> This page describes the general **Layer controls** of the Field system in **Cinema 4D**. These settings — blending, visibility, masks — are shared by all entries in a Field list and form the basis of layered Field mixing.

The **Layer** is not a separate object. It lends its settings to other objects in a Field list as a Layer (see also [Other Objects](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/58725.html.md)).
