It smooths Field changes over time so effects follow with inertia — the temporal easing counterpart to the Decay layer. ![Image: 041718.jpg](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/041718.jpg)\ An effect that runs from left to right with two different delay modes. The Delay Layer influences the temporal course of changes (due to fields/modifier layer arranged in the field list in front of it; which also includes color changes, for example) and can therefore also have an effect outside a field influence area. This makes it similar to the [Decay Layer](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/FLDECAY.html.md), although a few special effects are integrated here - such as the spring effect. # Example Here, 2 Delay field layers act on the animation generated by a linear field. The *Spring* **Mode** is used in the foreground and the *Smooth* **Mode** in the background.
