It outputs values that evolve with animation time — ramps, sine or sawtooth curves — driving effects that progress without keyframes. ![Image: 041631.jpg](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/041631.jpg)\ A Time Field Layer in a Polygon Selection Tag. A large spherical field (positioned at the top left corner of the cube) specifies a value distribution from 0 to 1, to which the time is added, causing the selection to grow. [![Image: halvar.png](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/halvar.png)](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Scenes/2026-0_time_field_02_.c4d) Depending on the animation time, this field outputs a continuously increasing value according to the presetting (however, sine, sawtooth and other curves can also be defined, which limit the value output to 0 - 1, for example), which can be mixed with other fields and modifier layers in the corresponding field lists (e.g. for effectors or deformers). Please note that this field does not affect directions. This means, for example, that repeating effects can be created without having to use the timeline.
