> This page documents the **Lathe object** in **Cinema 4D**, a spline generator. It revolves a profile spline around the Y-axis — the classic way to model glasses, vases, bottles and any rotationally symmetric shape from a single outline.
The Lathe object (also known as the screw object) rotates a spline around the Y-axis of the Lathe object so that you can create an elaborate wine glass from a simple profile, for example. The rotation takes place as soon as you 'drop' the spline into the Lathe object. As a rule, the profile spline should be in the XY plane.
