# Track Modifier

> This page describes the **Track Modifier tag** in **Cinema 4D**. It procedurally alters existing keyframe animation — adding noise, offsets, smoothing or loops — so variations and polish can be layered onto tracks without editing individual keyframes.

This tag takes the existing animations and modifies them procedurally. This makes the following possible:

- Very straightforward animations can be made to look more realistic by adding slight or larger deviations.
- Elastic behavior can be added to the animation.
- Animations can be smoothed.
- and much more (see also [Mode](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/TCAANIMATIONMODIFIER-ID_TAGPROPERTIES.html.md)).

instead of animating these effects manually, this tag helps get that something extra out of an animation.

The respective effects can also be expanded to the object's other tags and/or its hierarchy. It's also possible to exempt individual animation tracks from the tag's effect.

> **Tip:** Note: Note that you can call up the **Add Track Modifier** command in the Attribute Manager under "Animation" for selected, animated tracks,which will restrict the tag tothe selected tracks.

# Example

In this scene, all cylinders have an exactly identical animation track **Position.Y.** Track Modifier tags vary the vertical animation in different ways. From left to right:

1. Original, unaltered animation.
2. *Posterization**Mode***.
3. *Spring**Mode***.
4. *Smooth**Mode***, negative time factor (faster).
5. *Smooth**Mode***, positive time factor (slower).
