It stores per-component weights for Subdivision Surface objects, painted with the SDS Weight tool — controlling how strongly edges and points are sharpened in the smoothed result. This tag has 2 purposes: - Weighting information is stored in the tag. It is created automatically when you weigh a Subdivision Surface. See also [Weighting of Subdivision Surfaces](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/OSDS.html.md). - On the other hand, the subdivision of objects in a hierarchy can be controlled separately under a Subdivision Surface object. Then assign a separate tag to each object. # Example In this scene, first edges and then polygons are weighted: [Video: 2026](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/2026-1_sds_weight_tag_01_.mp4) [![Image: halvar.png](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/halvar.png)](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Scenes/2026-1_sds_weight_tag_01_.c4d)
