# Dissolve

From left to right: Selected edges; after applying **Dissolve**; points are deleted according to the Phong Angle setting.

Use this command to delete selected edges. This command works similar to the [Melt](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/5673.html.md) command, the difference being, that unnecessary points will also be deleted automatically. This command is also ideal for deleting edges created using the [Connect](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/15943.html.md) Points/Edges command.

If you click on the `Shift` key when call up the command, when Points are deleted, the [Phong Angle](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/TPHONG-ID_TAGPROPERTIES.html.md) (**Smooth to**) is taken into account, i.e., points will not be deleted at hard edges (or where [BreakPhong Shading](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/5680.html.md) is detected).

When in Point or Polygon mode, **Dissolve** functions exactly like the [Melt](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/5673.html.md) command.
