Classic Materials
Before Redshift became the new standard renderer with Cinema 4D 2024, other renderers were offered that also used their own material systems, scene objects, light sources and cameras. To a certain extent, Redshift can also use these Classic Materials and objects, but none of the special Redshift functions can be used with them. When using Redshift, you should therefore use its own materials, light sources and cameras wherever possible.
However, old projects can still be edited and rendered as usual, as the classic renderers and materials remain part of Cinema 4D. To do this, simply switch the renderer to Standard or Physical in the Render Settings, depending on the project you are processing.
Please note that some Node-based materials are also available in the Classic Material system. Their properties are described in this section. However, these classic Node materials are not compatible with Redshift materials and cannot be converted to Redshift materials.
The main properties of Classic Materials based on material channels, on the other hand, can also be converted to Redshift materials using various functions in the Material menu in the Material Manager.
