# Closest Point

> **Note:** **What is it about?**
>
> This page covers the **Closest Point node** of the Scene Nodes system in **Cinema 4D**. It finds the nearest surface or spline position to a given point in local coordinates — the building block for snapping, projections and proximity logic.

This Node calculates the position of the object surfaces or spline points that lie nearest to a defined position. This calculation will take place using the local coordinates of the linked geometry.

A cube's position serves as the basis for the calculation of the nearest point position on the large sphere, to which a small sphere is then added.\
