# Dual Mesh Modifier

> **Note:** **What is it about?**
>
> This page covers the **Dual Mesh Modifier node** of the Scene Nodes system in **Cinema 4D**. It converts a mesh into its dual structure — polygons become points and vice versa — with optional smoothing, popular for hexagonal patterns.

With this function you can give a geometry a new structure and optionally have it smoothed by additional subdivisions.

Alternative subdivision functions can be used to develop new structures from known geometries, as demonstrated here using the example of two cubes.
