# Solidify

> **Note:** **What is it about?**
>
> This page describes the **Solidify node** of the Scene Nodes system in **Cinema 4D**. It gives open shapes a wall thickness by extruding polygons while keeping the original surface — the node counterpart of the Thicken workflow.

This Node can be used to add a wall thickness to shapes. The polygons will be extruded together while maintaining the original surfaces.

The Solidify Node offers a useful function to thicken flat shapes such as a plane. Closed shapes can also be modified in order to add a wall strength. This is shown in this example on a cube that new has a smaller cube in its inner. The same functionality is also available with the Modeling Op Node as shown in the upper branch of the example.
