## Inputs

### Geometry

Parameter ID: `GEOMETRYIN`

Here you direct the polygon geometry to the Node whose points, edges or faces are to be extruded. For extruding splines, the separate "Extrude Line" Node is available.

### Type

Parameter ID: `COMMANDMODE`

Here you select whether points, edges or polygons are to be extruded.

### Selection

Parameter ID: `SELECTION`

If not all elements of the geometry are to be extruded, you can initiate a selection here whose points, edges or polygons are to be used. For example, an *Index Array From String Node* is suitable for this purpose, where you can directly enter the indices of the desired points, edges or polygons. Alternatively, *Extrude* automatically accesses a selection created by *Select* Node if no **Selection** is linked at the Node. An additional option provides **Selection String** to create a selection directly at the Node.

### Selection String

Parameter ID: `SELECTIONSTRING`

Here you can, for example, use the name of a selection in quotation marks that you want to read out, e.g., *"MySelection"*. Otherwise, the *default* entry will use an active selection on the geometry.

You can also use special keywords and logical operations here to create a new selection from scratch or a combination of already saved selections. The following keywords and operations can be used:

- *Default*: This term causes an active selection currently present on the geometry to be used. If no selection is active, all points will be used.
- *odd*: This term is used to select all elements that have an odd index number.
- *even*: This term is used to select all elements that have an even index number.
- *all*: This selects all elements of the selected type.
- *hidden*: Selects the hidden elements of the geometry.
- *Name of a saved selection*: If you enter the name of a saved selection in quotation marks, this selection will be read and used. To use a combination of a saved selection and another keyword or selection, use quotation marks with the selection name.
- *Index numbers*: You can also use index numbers directly, just as you are used to from the Index Array From String Node.
- *Mathematical and logical operations*: Mathematical or logical operations can be used to combine selections. Using the string *odd – "center"* for instance selects all odd elements and then subtracts the selection that has been stored by the name *"center"*. You can use +, -, & (logical and), | (logical or) as well as a comma to combine multiple selections or index sequences.

### Offset

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_OFFSET` · Range: [-∞..+∞m]

This value specifies the distance at which the extruded elements should move away from the original surface.

### Offset Variation

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_OFFSETVAR` · Range: [-∞..+∞%]

You can use this value if you do not want all extruded elements to have the same **Offset**. **Offset Variation** specifies the maximum percentage deviation from **Offset**. In any case, the maximum extrusion is given by **Offset**. The **Offset Variation** therefore only defines the smallest possible Offset.

### Inset

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_INSET` · Range: [-∞..+∞m]

This value applies to the extrusion of points, controlling the distance around the original point that serves as the base for the extruded point. If you think of the result of an extruded point as a pyramid, the base of the pyramid is defined by **Inset**.

### Inset Variation

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_INSETVAR` · Range: [-∞..+∞%]

This percentage value applies only to the extrusion of points and provides a variation in the **Inset** value used with each extruded point.

### Subdivision

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_SUBDIVISIONS` · Range: [0..2147483647]

This can be used to calculate additional subdivisions along the **Offset** extrusion for edges and polygons.

If **Per Step** is active, the subdivision number is used as a multiplier for the **Offset**. Accordingly, the extruded elements are moved further.

When extruding points, the **Subdivision** specifies the number of additional subdivisions in each face adjacent to the point.

### Per Step

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_PERSTEP`

Activate this option if you want the extrusion to be calculated automatically as often as specified in **Subdivision**. The actual distance of the element displacement results from the multiplication of **Offset** and **Subdivision**. This function is not available when extruding points.

### Create Ngons

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_CREATENGONS`

Allows you to have the polygons added by the **Subdivision** automatically combined into an N-gon per extruded edge. In the "Points" **mode**, only the edges in the polygons adjacent to the original point are merged.

Polygons

### Use Islands

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_USEISLANDS`

When extruding polygons, all polygons are treated individually. With curved surfaces, the extruded polygons therefore separate and look like individual protuberances. If you also want the extruded polygons to remain connected to their neighbors, activate **Use Islands**. **Max Angle** can be used to define the angle between adjacent surfaces above which they are to be extruded separately again.

### Max Angle

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_MAXANGLE` · Range: [0..180°]

If **Use Islands** is active when extruding polygons, you can use this angle to define up to which slope between polygons they should still be extruded contiguously.

### Create Caps

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_CREATECAPS`

Normally, when extruding polygons, the original surfaces are deleted. During extrusion, this creates a kind of open box, with the opening in the place of the extruded original polygon. If you want to preserve the original polygons, activate **Create Caps**. This can be used excellently, for example, with one sided geometry, such as a plane, to give them a thickness through extrusion.

Edges

### Rotation

Parameter ID: `NET_MAXON_COMMAND_MODELING_EXTRUDE_BASE_ROTATION` · Range: [-∞..+∞°]

When you extrude edges, **Rotation** lets you change the direction of the extruded edge.
