It converts geometry edges into spline curves — making mesh structure available as splines within node setups or as a capsule in the Object Manager. > **Tip:** Note:There are also *Cineversity* videos for these special Node capsules, which demonstrate their practical use. Follow [this link](https://cineversity.maxon.net/en/series/cinema-4d-nodal-capsules) to the corresponding overview page. This node can also be used as a capsule in the *Object Manager*, for example, to respond to an edge selection and generate spline segments from it. In the example shown below, the [Border Selection Node](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/NET_MAXON_NEUTRON_ASSET_GEO_BORDERSELECTION.html.md) was first used to save the selection of the open edges of a landscape as an edge selection. *Edge to Spline* then accesses this edge selection, and an [Extrude](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/OEXTRUDE.html.md) object creates polygons along the Y-axis based on these splines. ![Example scene in Cinema 4D using a border selection of a landscape to extrude the border edge loop.](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/2027-0_Nodes_Edge_to_Spline_01.png) > **Note:** Keep in mind that *Edge to Spline* cannot automatically create a closed spline from a selection of edges. Each edge becomes a single spline segment. For this reason, even when a closed edge loop is processed, a closed spline may not be created.
