# Inheritance

> **Note:** **What is it about?**
>
> This page documents the **Inheritance Effector** in **Cinema 4D**'s MoGraph system. Clones inherit positions, rotations or entire animations from another object — even morphing between two Cloner arrangements — for effects formerly requiring Thinking Particles.

The Inheritance Effector can be used to create spectacular effects by **inheriting** position and angle values or animations from one object to another. In the same way, clones of a clone object can be morphed onto the clones of a second clone object. Such effects were previously only possible with **Thinking Particles**.

In the following description, the original clones are referred to as **heirs** and the object in the **Object** field is referred to as the **parent** object.

# Example

In the following example, all chess pieces follow the cylinder animation one after the other. For the "one after the other", the heir effector has a defined **Step Gap** greater than *0*.
