# Spline

> **Note:** **What is it about?**
>
> This page documents the **empty Spline object** in **Cinema 4D**. It provides a blank container for hand-built curves — created via the Spline Pen or point editing — and explains the foundation all spline types share.

This command creates an **empty** spline object. Like the Polygon object, it is recognizable on screen only by its origin and axes.

This object can serve as a base for the construction of splines (e.g., using the [Spline Pen](https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/Content/html/TOOLSPLINEPEN.html.md)). However, a spline is usually created automatically as long as an existing spline is not already selected.
