Overview
Redshift understands and translates the native camera types and most of their settings. A general discussion of commonly used camera settings is included in the Camera Basics topic.
However, to use all available Redshift rendering options and post effects, it is recommended to use the native Redshift Camera Object for new projects.
When using the native Redshift camera, there are currently some know limitations to be aware of:
- The Redshift camera does not work properly in scenes created in earlier C4D releases (will be fixed in an upcoming update). The solution for now is to only use the Redshift Camera object in new projects.
- When converting a Cinema 4D/Redshift Camera tag combination, the camera looses its animation
- When converting a Cinema 4D/Redshift Camera tag combination that has been grouped under a Null object, the camera changes its position
You can access the different camera types directly from Cinema 4D's Create menu, if Redshift is your active Renderer (see Cinema 4D Render Settings).
Older Redshift versions only offered a combination of Cinema 4D cameras with a Redshift Camera tag. This kind of setup is still preserved when opening old scene files, but for new projects you should use a native Redshift camera.
Older Cinema 4D versions only offered Redshift-specific camera settings via the Redshift Camera Tag that was attached to a standard Cinema 4D camera.
If you would like to convert a scene that still uses Redshift Camera tags, you can use the Convert Scene to Native RS Cameras-button, found in the Redshift tab of the Project Settings (use the shortcut Ctrl-D to open the Cinema 4D Project Settings in the Attribute Manager). This function will create native Redshift cameras for all Cinema 4D camera/Redshift Camera tag combinations for you.
When combining projects that contain native Redshift cameras and a combination of Cinema 4D cameras with Redshift Camera Tags, the Redshift Camera Tags lose their function and have to be converted by clicking the 'Convert to Redshift Camera Object' button (see image below).
Native Redshift cameras can be added from the 'Create>Camera' menu.
The native Redshift camera doesn't need an additional tag and offers all settings in one streamlined dialog.
