Magic Bullet Colorista V
Slider Controls
This page covers Colorista's various slider controls.
-
Colorista Strength
sets the interaction between the original image and the corrections performed by Colorista. Lowering this value fades Colorista's effect.
-
Color Handling
is covered in the Color Handling section of this guide.
-
Color Correction
-
3-Way
Color wheels are explained in depth here.
-
White Balance
is covered on this page.
-
Temperature
nudges colors into red tones (higher values) or blue tones (lower values).
-
Tint
nudges colors into yellow tones (higher values) or red tones (lower values).
-
Exposure
stretches or compresses the red, green, and blue channels. Exposure is good for setting the image's overall brightness, especially after adjusting the other correction controls.
-
Exposure keyboard shortcuts (After Effects only)
-
Up Arrow:
Increase Primary Exposure by 0.25
-
Up Arrow + Shift:
Increase Primary Exposure by 1.0
-
Down Arrow:
Decrease Primary Exposure by –0.25
-
Down Arrow + Shift:
Decrease Primary Exposure by –1.0
-
Contrast
helps define luminescence detail. The value range is from -10 to 10. The default value is 0, which is neutral. Positive/higher values add contrast, bringing out detail in your image while negative/lower values remove contrast, flattening your image.
-
Highlight Boost
pushes highlights up into HDR. It also helps with standard dynamic range highlight boosting, brightening any highlight values above their current ranges.
-
Highlight Rolloff
softens any color values above clipping and rolls them back to non-clipping color values. Higher values affect broader areas of clipping, while lower values start with only the minimal clipping values. Setting Highlight Rolloff too high can potentially flatten the range of values near clipping.
-
Hue and Saturation
-
Saturation
raises or lowers the footage’s colorfulness or color intensity. Lower values drain color, making the image closer to grayscale. Higher values add color intensity and cause the image color to become bolder.
-
Hue
shifts all colors along the color wheel. Higher values move the color sample counterclockwise along the color wheel. Negative/lower values move the sample clockwise along the color wheel.
-
HSL
is covered in depth on this page.
-
Saturation
EQ
adjusts saturation across the various values of luminance (lum) and saturation (sat) .
-
Sat by Lum
adjusts the saturation by luminance between the darkest (leftmost) values and brightest (rightmost) values.
-
Sat by Sat
adjusts the saturation levels by the lowest-saturated (leftmost) values and most-saturated (rightmost) values.
-
Show Skin Overlay
toggles a grid over skin areas considered to be within broadcast-safe skin tones.
-
Structure and Lighting
-
Highlight Regions
controls the brightness of the image’s highlight regions. Positive values brighten image highlights without altering the perceptual contrast level of the shot. Negative values remove brightness from highlights.
-
Shadow Regions
controls the brightness of the image’s shadow regions. Higher values lighten image shadows while maintaining the shot's apparent contrast.
Decreasing the value darkens the shadows.
-
Clarity
enhances shadow brightness. Higher values brighten shadows without affecting overall contrast, and lower values reduce shadow brightness.
-
Vignette
mimics a lens vignette. A lens vignette occurs when the light that enters the lens is partially blocked by the barrel, causing a natural decrease in brightness around the frame edges. Positive values add vignetting to the image. Negative values remove vignetting that may already exist.
-
Curves
are outlined in detail here.
