An effect that creates a six-point color map from your A and B footage and uses the colors to transition between the two. Change the motion of the transition with 23 animation style options. Randomize points and time offset options to create unique movements between frames.
Presets
Universe Dashboard presets for Spectralicious Transition make soft, gentle A-B linear transitions a snap. Just keyframe the Mix duration (see below) and tune to taste! Find these presets via the blue Open Dashboard... button or the Choose a Preset... button below it.
As with all other Universe tools, you can modify or create a Spectralicious Transition look and then save it under its own name by pressing the Save Preset... button.
Getting Started in a Timeline
Drag the transition over your edit in the timeline, placing it at the end or beginning. Alternatively, you can place it between two successive clips.
Modify the
Duration
of the transition either by entering a length in the field or dragging directly in the timeline.
You can choose the
Alignment
(Center at Cut, Start at Cut, End at Cut, or Custom Start) either by positioning the transition in the timeline or by choosing from the Alignment drop-down in some host applications.
Getting Started in a Compositor
Apply the transition to the layer from which you want to transition.
Choose the footage layer you would like to transition to in the
Transition B
drop-down menu.
(Note for Motion users:
Drag the footage layer up to the Transition B box.)
Animate your transition using the
Mix
slider from 0% to 100 percent. Set a keyframe for 0% where the transition should start, then set another at 100% for the end.
Modify the Transition
Spectra Time Offset
offsets which frame the spectrum pulls color information from.
Increasing the
Spectra Pre Blur
control will add a blur to the image.
The
Animation
drop-down menu gives multiple interpolation style choices for your transition's animation. The default is Linear Tween.
For more detail on these animation patterns, see our Animation Tween Examples page.
Master Spread shrinks the space each individual color occupies in the frame as values lower, making their areas more defined. When this control is increased, the colors spread and blend together for a softer look. Examine the below comparison with 1% (left) set against 110% (right).
Noise
adds slight noise patterns to your gradient for a more organic look that covers the banding you may encounter in some gradient instances.
When turned on, the
Lighten Blend
checkbox blends the spectrum together in a “lighten” mode.
This isn't a "night and day" effect, but you can see the difference near the mid-point of our transition with Lighten Blend disabled (left) and enabled (right) below.
Animate Points
sets the pattern in which the spectrum points move across the screen.
Slow Transform
slowly animates the points and spread.
You can see how the color points have changed in this single-frame comparison on Animate Points: None (left) versus Slow Transform (right).
Randomize
moves the spectrum points in a random motion across the screen. Compare the below example (Point Speed: 20) with the clip atop this page.
None
keeps the points in their original position.
Point Speed
allows you to set the animated points' movement speed.
Adjust the
Random Seed
slider to randomize the spectrum points for new spectrum map results.
