A set of parameters for editing and applying displacement maps.
Palettes > Tool > Displacement
To use all Displacement Map options, the model must have UV coordinates, and a texture assigned in the Texture Map menu.
In the Texture Map menu, tap New Txtr to create a solid color texture map using the selected primary color in the left canvas toolbar.
Opens the Alphas Palette Picker library where grayscale images are stored in ZBrush. Images selected from this menu are assigned to the displacement map channel for the selected subtool.

The Display On toggle controls the visibility of the selected displacement map image.
When disabled, Displacement Map parameters are inactive.
The Clone Displacement button creates a copy of the selected displacement map, adds it to the Alpha Palette as the alpha chosen, and offers the option to export the image in various file formats.
Switches between two displacement modes:
Bump Only: If Mode is inactive, the displacement map effects are shown visibly as a bump map without deforming geometry.
Displacement: If Mode is active, the displacement map deforms the object's shape based on the displacement map image and settings.
With Mode active, displacement map deformations depend on model resolution. Increase or add subdivisions for better results.
When a displacement map is active, disabling Quick 3D Edit negatively impacts its preview accuracy.
Learn more about Quick 3D Edit in the Mesh Smoothness Options section provided in this guide.
Controls the strength of the displacement effect.
The Apply Displacement map button applies the displacement map to deform the geometry based on the grayscale values of the displacement map.
Pressing Apply DispMap disables the Display On toggle.
Interpret grayscale values as follows:
50% gray: no geometry change.
Lighter areas: geometry is displaced outward.
Darker areas: geometry is displaced inward.
