Edge Targets

Edge targets define which edges are affected when performing an Edge action with ZModeler. These targets determine whether an operation applies to a single edge, a continuous loop, or a specific selection based on geometric rules. Define how an action modifies the model's topology by selecting an edge target, allowing for precise or broad adjustments depending on the modeling intent.

Edge targets work in conjunction with polygon actions such as inserting loops, bridging gaps, or closing holes. Some targets, like Edge, restrict the action to one selected Edge, while others, such as EdgeLoop Complete, extend the effect along a closed path of connected edges. Modifier keys expand selection flexibility, dynamically enabling users to toggle between different target types. Understanding edge targets is essential for controlling geometry flow and refining the model efficiently and accurately.

Edge

Targets only the single-clicked Edge.

EdgeLoop Complete

Targets a loop of connected edges that forms a closed path.

EdgeLoop Partial

Targets a section of connected edges until they meet the first extraordinary point, a vertex with an odd number of connected edges.

Edge/Edgeloop

Targets a single edge or an entire edge loop based on the selected modifier key.

Edge/PolyLoop

Target either a single edge or the poly loop attached to the selected edge loop.

Edgeloop

Targets a loop of connected edges that forms a closed path.

Multiple EdgeLoop

Inserts multiple evenly spaced edge loops along the flow of the selected Edge. Modifiers allow adjustments to elevation, resolution, polygroup behavior, and other parameters.

Single EdgeLoop

Adds a single edge loop based on the selected action's parameters.

Edge Strip

Targets a strip of edges along the same poly loop using two clicks. The first click defines the starting Edge, while the second click sets the endpoint. The second Edge must belong to the same poly loop as the first.

Polyloop

Targets the polyloop linked to the selected Edge.

Two Edges

Targets two selected edges to apply an action. The first Edge is selected by clicking once (Click 1st Edge), and the second Edge is selected by clicking again (Click 2nd Edge) to complete the action.

Polygroup Island

Targets all polygons within a geometry island (shell) that share the same polygroup.

Hole

Target the edges of an open face (hole).

Concave Hole

Exclusive to the Close Hole action, selecting an edge of a hole fills it with evenly distributed triangles.

Convex Hole

Exclusive to the Close Hole action, selecting an edge of a hole fills it with a radial pattern of triangles converging at a central pole while adding concentric poly loops for even geometry distribution.

Two Holes

Targets two holes in the same subtool for applying an action. Hovering over the first hole displays "Click 1st Edge," and clicking confirms the selection. Hovering over the second hole shows "Click 2nd Edge," clicking again completes the selection and applies the action.
