Gizmo3D Basics Guide

Instructions for all basic Gizmo3D navigation and controls.

1 . Tap Gizmo3D to activate, then long press the Gizmo3D icon to open settings.

2. Drag Gizmo3D x/y/z-axis cones to move the object along the selected axis.

This step uses a scenario in which Symmetry (x axis) and Local Symmetry are active. When Gizmo3D aligns to the model's perfect center, regardless of symmetry settings, a model can be moved uniformly.

When Local Symmetry is disabled, if Gizmo3D is not at the perfect center of the subtool, moving the object along the selected axis pulls the model from both sides. This occurs due to active Symmetry, which draws two Gizmo3D controllers (one visible and one hidden) on the model's symmetrical sides.

In simpler terms, imagine taking both of your hands and pulling the cheeks of the character, only your hands are replaced with the symmetrical Gizmo3D controllers.

3 . Drag the x/y/z-axis rectangles to scale the model non-uniformly along the selected axis.

4 . Drag the center yellow square to uniformly scale the model.

Gizmo3D affects only unmasked model portions.

5 . Drag on gray corners to move the model in horizontal and vertical screen space according to the current camera angle.

6 . Drag the Gizmo3D rotation circles to rotate along the selected axis.

7 . Hold the Shift -modifier and drag the rotation handles to rotate in 5-degree increments.

The above example demonstrates steps 1 through 7.

8. Hold Alt/Option to activate the Unlock Gizmo3D function, then drag the Move and Rotate wheels to reorient Gizmo3D separate from the model.

Gizmo3D offers a Lock/Unlock feature for parenting to the subtool. By default, Gizmo3D is locked to the subtool.

Holding Alt/Option temporarily unlocks Gizmo3D while pressed. Tap the Gizmo3D Lock/Unlock icon to toggle this setting manually.

9. Tap Gizmo3D > Go To Unmasked Mesh Center (location icon) to snap the controller to the unmasked mesh center.

This step relies on Symmetry being active.

When Symmetry is active, Go to Unmasked Mesh Center does not position Gizmo3D at the perfect center of the model. Symmetry mode draws two Gizmo3D controllers (one hidden from view) which cause the Snap effect to align Gizmo3D at the center of both symmetrical model sides.

Disable Symmetry and repeat step 9 to successfully snap to the perfect center of the model.

If the model has a mask, Go To Unmasked Center snaps to the center point of the unmasked surface. We recommend clearing masks to successfully snap Gizmo3D to the subtool's center.

10. Hold Alt/Option and tap Reset Orientation (circular arrow icon) to reset Gizmo3D's orientation to x/y/z-axis world space.

The above example demonstrates steps 8 through 10.

11. Move the model away from the world origin. Tap Gizmo3D > Home icon to send the model back to the world origin.

The above example demonstrates step 11.
