Program Tabs

Installation

With Maxon App installed, users can install as many Maxon programs as their license and storage space allow. Let’s step through installing a title so you can know what to expect.

Assuming you have a current Maxon license that covers the desired program, you should see an Install button option as shown below under the All Products or My Products tabs. Click the Install button for your desired program.

Depending on the program, you may see a pop-up menu for Latest Version or Other Versions. In the vast majority of cases, you will pick Latest Version.

Your selected program will now show an indicator bar as it progresses through downloading. You may click the Cancel Install button if you realize you’ve made a poor life choice. If and when you change your mind again, you can return to the programs list and click Install once more.

Once the program finishes downloading, the program installer will open and prompt you to begin installation. You may need to provide permission for the system to make changes.

Some titles are larger than others. Magic Bullet Suite, for example, is a collection of seven programs. Installation may take several minutes.

Once the program or suite completes installation, you will see a confirmation screen indicating success. Go ahead and click Close.

When you return to the Maxon One interface, you’ll see the newly installed program show as being up to date.

Now, remember when Maxon App offered the option of installing the Latest Version or Another Version? Depending on the program, selecting the latter will yield a version options screen like this:

There are a few reasons you might opt for a prior version rather than the latest. While highly unlikely for a mature program, it is possible to have a new program installation be incompatible with other software installed on the system, but a prior version works without issue. More often, people working on a job won’t want any workflow changes while in mid-project. New versions might entail feature changes, either in function or location. Rather than deal with interrupting workflow to learn these changes, installing a prior, known version can delay that potential learning time until after project completion.

Updating

Conceptually, and in several steps, updating a Maxon program will look and act just like an installation. However, because there are a few differences, let’s quickly run through the process, starting with when you click the Update button.

You will see the download progress indicator bar.

Once downloading completes, it’s time to begin the program installation. This is where things diverge a bit from usual.

As you can see in the five-step sequence below, the installation follows the usual pattern, except now you are given an option to select the target installation location (red oval in the second frame).

Maxon recommends not changing the default target location.

Note the checkbox in the last frame. If selected, your Maxon program will launch when you click Finish.

When you return to Maxon One, your program should show an Up to Date status.

Uninstall

For various reasons, you may wish to uninstall one or more Maxon programs. With Maxon One, this process is just a matter of clicking the ellipsis (three dots) icon for that program or suite name, then selecting Uninstall from the resulting pop-up menu.

You may be prompted to allow Maxon App to make changes to your system. Click Yes to agree to this. The uninstall routine will complete automatically. If an error message results from uninstalling (as shown below), another Uninstall attempt, possibly preceded by a system reboot, will usually resolve the issue.
