Layer Maps Group

Rotate group

The Rotation Group lets you specify a source layer whose luminance values define the extent to which the particles will rotate. Note that this group will only be active when using a Star or Sprite particle type (set under Particle > Particle Type ). Areas that are light in color (or luminance) will be affected by the Rotation, while darker parts will be less affected. Black parts will not be affected by all. White parts, by default, will rotate 180 degrees.

At left, a layer with a gradient ramp. In the middle, the particle field with the Particle Type set to Sprite and an arrow sprite selected. At right, the gradient ramp is applied as the Rotate map with Strength set to 180.

Rotate > Layer for X, Layer for Y, Layer for Z: Sets the layer map for the planes that are identified. Layer for Z sets the source to the Z plane, and so on. Layer for X and Layer for Y are only active when the Face Camera checkbox in the Particle > Sprite Controls group is unchecked.

Rotate > Strength: Controls how much the particle will rotate when presented with a white value in your luminance map. By default, Strength set to 180, which means that when you have a white value, that particle will be rotated 180 degrees.
