Create a transition that uses layered blocks of color wiping across the screen to reveal a second layer.
Getting Started in a timeline
Dragging the transition over your edit in the timeline, drop it at the end or beginning of a clip, or in between two clips.
Modify the
Duration
either by entering a length in the field, or dragging directly in the timeline.
You can choose the
Alignment
(Center at Cut, Start at Cut, End at Cut, Custom Start) either by positioning the transition in the timeline, or by choosing from the Alignment drop-down in some host applications.
Getting Started in a compositor
Apply the transition to the layer you want to transition from.
Choose the footage layer you would like to transition to in the
Transition B
drop-down menu. (
Note for Motion users
: drag the footage layer up to the Transition B box).
Animate your transition using the
Mix
slider from 0-100%. Set a keyframe for 0% where the transition should start, then set another at 100% for the end.
Modify the Transition
The
Direction
drop-down menu can be used to change which direction the animation is moving: Left to Right, Right to Left, Down, or Up.
Click the
Reverse
checkbox to reverse the direction of the animation.
The
Animation
drop-down menu gives multiple choices of interpolation styles for the animation of your transition. The default is 'Ease In Out Exponential'.
Time Offset
affects the spatial offset between the layers during the transition. The higher the number, the more you will see of each layer.
Number of Layers
allows you to dial in the number of layers in the animation between 1 and 7.
Color
:
The
Color Scheme
gives options for how the different layers will be colored in relation to the main color you have chosen in the
Color
picker below. Your options include Analagous, Triadic, Complimentary, Split Complimentary, Tetradic, Square, Custom, and Custom Offset.
Custom Colors
: If you choose Custom as your Color Scheme, then you can set Colors 2 and 3 using the color pickers for each. Click the checkbox next to
Use Color 2
or
Use Color 3
to enable them.
Hue Offset
: If you choose Custom Offset as your Color Scheme, then you can dial in an offset from your main Color to change the hue of every other layer. The Hue Offset can be dialed in to affect layers in the Analagous, Split Complimentary and Tetradic Color Schemes as well.
Click the
Drop Shadow
checkbox to turn it on.
Shadow Size
determines the size of the drop shadow underneath layers.
Motion Blur:
Add realistic motion blur by choosing a setting from the drop-down menu: Off, Low, Medium, or High. The higher the Motion Blur setting, the more instances of the layer will appear in between frames.
The
Motion Blur Shutter
angle default is set to 180º. Turning it up towards 360
º
will spread the motion blur iterations out even with high number of blur levels.
The
Motion Blur Phase
describes whether the blur is centered around the current frame (default), or is weighted towards frames backward or forward.
