Getting Started in a timeline

1. Dragging the transition over your edit in the timeline, drop it at the end or beginning of a clip, or in between two clips.
2. Modify the Duration either by entering a length in the field, or dragging directly in the timeline.
3. You can choose the Alignment (Center at Cut, Start at Cut, End at Cut, Custom Start) either by positioning the transition in the timeline, or by choosing from the Alignment drop-down in some host applications.

Getting Started in a compositor

1. Apply the transition to the layer you want to transition from.
2. Choose the footage layer you would like to transition to in the Transition B drop-down menu. ( Note for Motion users : drag the footage layer up to the Transition B box).
3. Animate your transition using the Mix slider from 0-100%. Set a keyframe for 0% where the transition should start, then set another at 100% for the end.

Presets

• Click the Choose a Preset button to see an animated preview of all the presets available. Double-click any preset to apply.
• After modifying the effect, select Save a Preset... to save the modifications as a custom preset.

Modify the Effect

• Transition Type determines whether the transition will Zoom Forward , Zoom Backward , or Slide from one part to the next.
• Slide Direction sets the direction of the Slide when its Transition Type is used.
• Lens Distortion adjusts the amount of distortion applied while mixing the imagery together.
  • Use the Channel Settings below to adjust the various color distortions that occur within this effect.
• Clip A and Clip B Position sets the location the zoom is applied to when Zoom Forward or Zoom Backward are selected as the Transition Type .
• Scale controls the size the clips offset to during the transition.
• Rotation sets the angle the clips offset to during the transition.
• Animation Curve contains a list of speed presets that determine how the transition is executed. For more information on what these presets mean, visit the Animation Tweening page.
• Dissolve Start and End set at what percentage of the transition's completion that the mixing between clips will occur.
  Channel Settings
  • Red , Green , and Blue Distortion changes the position of the distorted color channel in the footage.
• Radial Blur softens the lens distortion effect towards the focal point of the layer.
• Zoom Blur adjust the blur effect that moves through Z-space when working with a Zoom Forward or Zoom Backward transition type.
• Slide Blur adjusts the blurring of the slides when working with the Slide transition type.
