# 3ds Max Plugin Configuration

> **Important:** This page describes how to *manually* perform the same steps that are handled automatically during Redshift installation. Normally you will not need to follow the instructions on this page, however, this may be helpful if you install a version of 3ds Max *after* installing Redshift.

## Manual Configuration

In order to configure Redshift with each version of 3ds Max various dlls and other required data must be copied into each 3ds Max installation directory. This is handled automatically during the Redshift installation process based on the versions of 3ds Max you selected but it can also be performed manually by using the relevant helper scripts that are provided with each installation of Redshift.

There is a different configuration script for each version of 3ds Max with the naming "install_redshift4max_####.bat" that can be found in the following location:

`C:\Program Files\Maxon Redshift 2026\Plugins\3dsMax`

To perform the configuration simply run the batch files for a particular version of 3ds Max and wait for the process to complete. Alternatively, the Redshift installer can be run again and new versions of 3ds Max can be selected.

## Install Options

The following options can be used by power users for advanced Redshift configuration in 3ds Max.

Syntax:

redshift4max_install [options] version [version [...]]

Arguments:

`version`

The version of 3ds Max to install, as a year number only (e.g. 2022).

Options:

`-clean`

Remove plugin files installed prior to Redshift 3.5.

`-help`

Show extended help.

`-interactive`

Enables interactive prompts

`-noelevate`

Do not attempt UAC elevation if insufficient privileges detected.

`-name str`

The name template for the package directory to create. The characters #### will be substituted with the 3ds Max version. When installing multiple versions at once, the template *must* contain this character sequence.

Default: `Redshift3dsMax####`

`-packages dir`

The path to Autodesk's ApplicationPlugins directory.

Default: `%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins`

`-pause`

Prompt before the script exits.

`-quiet`

Suppress output messages, except errors.

`-remove`

Uninstall the plugin.

`-root dir`

The path to Redshift's installation directory. If not specified, the location is inferred as a path relative to the current directory.

Default: `C:\Program Files\Maxon Redshift 20XX`

`-skipmaxcheck`

Bypass checking for active 3ds Max processes.

`-symlink`

Install Redshift binaries as symbolic links instead of copying files.

`-verbose`

Enable verbose output.
