The strands are built by Redshift at render time using real polygonal meshes, from tubes to strips. ![Image: image002367.jpg](https://help.maxon.net/r3d/katana/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/image002367.jpg) To enable the strands rendering, you only need to **change the location type of any “curves” location to “rsstrands”** using AttributeSet node. ![Image: image002366.jpg](https://help.maxon.net/r3d/katana/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/image002366.jpg) You have several options to control the strands building parameters available in the **RedshiftObjectSettings** node. - Strand geometric type. - The maximum number of tessellation subdivisions. - The default scale, used if the object doesn’t have a valid scale attribute. - Global scale multiplier. - A switch to enable the screen-space adaptive tessellation. ![Image: image002365.jpg](https://help.maxon.net/r3d/katana/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/image002365.jpg) The plugin extracts automatically a couple of arbitrary float point attributes that can be used to control the strands geometry at point level: “**rotation**” and “**scale**”. The st maps and other arbitrary point, face or location attributes can be also used with the strands objects.
