A simple, high quality blur effect that can work in linear gamma space and blur along a line with controls for angle and radius.
Presets
We're keeping it simple and sweet. Blur offers two presets to help get you fuzzy in just seconds.
Find these presets via the blue Open Dashboard... button or the Choose a Preset... button below it.
Want an example? Imagine you're traveling abroad on business. One polite drink after work turns into two. Next thing you know, you awake on the outskirts of Dubai blearily gazing up into camel nostrils. How would you convey this in video? Try keyframing the H Blur preset!
As with all other Universe tools, you can modify or create a Blur look and then save it under its own name by pressing the Save Preset... button.
Modify the Effect
Blur Width/Height are the primary controls for increasing the blur effect. Below, compare Blur Width values of 20 (left), 200 (center), and 1200 (right), which essentially blurs your subject out of existence.
Enabling the
Proportional
checkbox ties the
Blur Height value to that of Blur Width. Thus, if you set Blur Width to 50, Blur Height will automatically change to 50.
Note that when Proportional is checked, Blur Width will only scale to 500 (the maximum for Blur Height). When unchecked, it can reach up to 2000.
Angle
rotates the blur direction. This is easiest to see when one blur orientation (width or height) is significantly more pronounced than the other.
Enabling
Apply Linear
converts the gamma from standard video gamma (Rec 709 assumed) to linear gamma (1.0). This results in less smearing of blacks and brighter results overall.
