Separates and offsets the RGB channels in an image. Controls adjust the radius and angle of the channel separation.
Presets
Try any of our 16 presets for instant previewing of how RGB Separation can enliven your footage. Find these via the blue Open Dashboard... button or the Choose a Preset... button below it.
As with all other Universe tools, you can modify or create an RGB Separation look and then save it under its own name by pressing the Save Preset... button.
Modify the Effect
The
Radius
control is the main slider for this simple effect. Decrease the slider toward -500 to move the red color channel right and the blue channel left of center. Increase the control toward 500 to move the red color channel to the left and the blue channel to the right. The green color channel remains centered.
The following animation shows the impact of increasing values steadily from 0.
Use the
Angle
control to move the red and blue channels in a circular offset from their original position relative to the center green channel.
Increasing
Distortion
values stretch image edges closer while pushing the center slightly away from the viewer.
In the below comparison of values 0 (left) and 70, note how high Distortion warps the color channels at the comp's top and bottom edges. Enabling Linear (see below) may reduce some of this warping.
The
Linear
checkbox (on by default) keeps channel movement from the Radius control on the horizontal axis only. When turned off, Radius moves the channels out on a diagonal.
