The presets are named after what the speed function would look like on a graph (where x is time and y is distance), prefixed with whether the function's curve affects the animation's beginning (creating an **Ease In** effect), end (an **Ease Out** effect), both, or nothing at all (**Linear**). Below are examples of how the different functions' curves appear on a graph for an **Ease In** effect. **(Ease Out** looks identical but flipped horizontally.) | | | | | | | | | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Linear | Quad | Cubic | Quartic | Quintic | Sine | Exponential | Circle | | ![Image: linear_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/linear_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinquad2_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinquad2_universe.png) | ![Image: easeincubic3_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeincubic3_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinquart4_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinquart4_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinquint5_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinquint5_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinsine1_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinsine1_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinexpo6_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinexpo6_universe.png) | ![Image: easeincirc7_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeincirc7_universe.png) | The following examples show the same curves when applied to both the beginning and end of the animation. These are prefixed in the preset menu with **Ease In Out.** | | | | | | | | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Quad | Cubic | Quartic | Quintic | Sine | Exponential | Circle | | ![Image: EaseInOutQuad_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutQuad_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutCubic_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutCubic_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutQuart_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutQuart_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutQuint_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutQuint_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinoutsine1_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinoutsine1_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutExpo_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutExpo_universe.png) | ![Image: easeinoutcircle_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinoutcircle_universe.png) | Lastly, here are a some examples of both **Ease In** and **Ease In Out** animation curves at their extremes when applied to our effects (in this case **Universe Rubix Cube):** | | | | | | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Linear | ![Image: linear_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/linear_universe.png) | ![Image: LInear_universe.gif](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/LInear_universe.gif) | | Zero easing on this curve, just a straight shot from the transition's start to finish. | | Ease In Quad | ![Image: easeinquad2_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinquad2_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInQuad_universe.gif](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInQuad_universe.gif) | | A slight easing into the transition, with acceleration picking up over time. | | Ease In Circle | ![Image: easeincirc7_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeincirc7_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInCircle_universe.gif](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInCircle_universe.gif) | | A slower transition that rapidly accelerates toward the end, giving a "snap" appearance. | | Ease In Out Quad | ![Image: EaseInOutQuad_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutQuad_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutQuad_universe.gif](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutQuad_universe.gif) | | A gradual ease at the transition's beginning and end. | | Ease In Out Circle | ![Image: easeinoutcircle_universe.png](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/easeinoutcircle_universe.png) | ![Image: EaseInOutCircle_universe.gif](https://help.maxon.net/rg/en-us/Content/Resources/Images/EaseInOutCircle_universe.gif) | | A gradual ease at both ends, with a very fast switch in the S-curve's middle. |
