The possibility of obtaining information regarding shadows or the shading of a surface opens new options for the creation of materials. In this example, a

material’s luminance was applied exclusively on the shaded areas of an object. At the center of the image, the scene is shown without the

luminous effect for comparison.

This node internally computes diffuse and specular shading based on the (definierten) light sources in the scene. This works independently of the BSDF nodes normally required to evaluate lights within the node system. Note that the algorithms used here are fast approximations and not physically-based.
