# Save ZTL & ZPR Files

ZTools (.ztl) and ZProjects (.zpr) are saved from the ZBrush canvas > Save menu.

# Quick Steps

1. Long press **Save** to open > tap **User Settings** > **Save Options** > select **ZPR** or **ZTL** to set as the default format for the **Save** button.

> **Note:** Save As > ZPR is the default setting.

2. Tapping the **Save** spawns the Name Sculpt dialog box for labeling the first iteration of a file > Tap Save to store in ZBrush iPad app files.

> **Tip:** Apple Pencil's scribble feature is supported with renaming files and subtools. Learn more in the **[Apple Pencil](https://help.maxon.net/zbp/en-us/Content/html/3_interface-and-gestures_apple-pencil.html.md)** section provided in this guide.

3. On next use of the Save button, ZBrush overwrites the file last saved in step 2.

> **Note:** User Settings > Save Options are stored to ZBrush preferences and retained after restart.

> **Tip:** After saving an initial ZPR or ZTL file > long press Save > tap Save Next to save an incremental version of the active file.
