Preserve UV

This option is intended for the following scenario: After UV processing and texturing, you want to change details on the mesh components, e.g. move points, edges, polygons. The projection should remain unchanged.

In this example, a rectangular edge selection is first moved in the 3D view and then the Fit Circle command is called up. Preserve UV is deactivated on the left and activated on the right. Note how the texture on the left is distorted.

Until now, the reason for this was that the UV coordinates were not adjusted accordingly when editing the geometry of a mesh. Since Cinema 4D 2026.1 there is a workaround with the option Preserve UV. This works best if the geometry mesh is as flat as possible, the component translations are as parallel to the surface as possible and there is no (UV) overlap during processing.

This option works for many modeling commands/tools and is therefore implemented as a global modeling option.
