Triplanar

With the Triplanar node, up to six shaders can be projected from six different directions and also be superimposed. This can make unwrapping UV coordinates for complex objects unnecessary.

Quad mapping is a popular projection type for textures because materials can be assigned to just about any object shape. The distortion of the projected textures is kept to a minimum because a flat projection is made from all six cardinal points. The only disadvantage is the often visible hard edges where the projections from the different directions meet. The Triplanar node can reduce this effect by calculating soft transitions between the projections.
