The Material Sampler Tool

Materials describe the appearance of object surfaces and how they should react to light. Colors, gloss, reflection, and special properties such as surface roughness or transparency are defined by materials. Many high-quality material descriptions can be searched for directly via the Library Browser and loaded into the project. These materials then appear in a separate Materials section in the Scene Manager. From there, the materials can be grabbed with the mouse and dropped directly onto the desired object in the viewport where the material is to be used (see following video).

If some materials have already been assigned to objects, this process can be simplified even further with the Material Sampler, because with this tool, you simply click on the object that already has the desired material and then Shift-click on the other object that should also receive the sampled material. The following video illustrates this with an example.

Important:

Newly assigned materials are automatically applied to all objects that have the material being replaced.
For example: All of your window panes have already been assigned the same generic glass material in your architectural software. As soon as you drag one of the optimized glass materials in Maxon Redshift onto one of these window pane objects, all other objects in the scene that used the same generic glass material will automatically adopt the new glass material as well.

After selecting a material by left-clicking on an object, it is permanently displayed next to the mouse pointer with its preview image and name. This material can then be transferred to several objects in succession by Shift-clicking.
