Backlight Shader

Backlight allows you to gather illumination (only from real light sources, i.e., no polygon lights, GI, etc.) from the back face of an object. This gives the ability to create translucency effects with backlighting, such as rice paper or a thin leaf lit from the opposite side complete with shadowing.
The most likely place to use Backlight is in the Luminance channel.
