Point Actions & Modifiers
Point Actions allow precise control over individual points within a model using the ZModeler brush. These actions enable users to manipulate topology, create new connections, adjust geometry flow, and refine surface details. Depending on the selected action, users can move points, extrude them into new geometry, stitch connections, or split areas to introduce refined edge loops and shapes.
Point Modifiers refine and customize the behavior of Point Actions, providing additional control over how points move, connect, and affect surrounding topology. These settings adjust symmetry, alignment, attraction, and subdivision structure to enhance workflow precision and maintain model integrity.
Bridge
Create new edges between points on the same polygon. The Ring Target connects the selected point to all points in the polygon, while the Two Points Target connects two points sequentially.
Bridge Modifiers
Adjust the edges created when bridging points within a polygon. These settings define whether the resulting edges receive creasing for sharper transitions or if they are assigned new polygroups for better organization. By refining the bridge operation, these modifiers provide greater control over the structure and appearance of the newly generated topology.
Crease Ring
Determines whether the edges created by the Bridge action are creased.
-
On: Applies creasing to the newly created edges.
-
Off: Leaves the new edges uncreased.
Regroup Ring
Controls whether newly created edges are assigned a new polygroup.
-
On: Assigns a new polygroup to the edges created by the action.
-
Off: Retains the existing polygroup structure for the newly created edges.
Crease
Apply creases to edges connected to the clicked point.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: Hold Alt/Option and click a point to remove creases from the attached edges.
Delete
Delete polygons connected to the selected point, creating a hole in the mesh. Unlike Polygon Delete, Point Delete collapses attached quads into triangles while entirely removing any connected triangles.
Do Nothing
Disable Point Actions, preventing unintended modifications.
Extrude
Extrude a targeted point into a pyramidal shape perpendicular to the point. This action does not offer fusion to adjacent polygons.
-
While extruding a point, hold the Cmd/Ctrl-modifier to convert the Extrude action into a Move action.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: While extruding a point, tap Alt/Option to change the Polygroup assigned to the new polygons.
Make Curve
Click a series of points to create a curve path supported by curve brushes and various curve mode features.
-
Spacebar-modifier: Press the spacebar to end the curve and continue clicking points to create disconnected curve lines.
Learn more in the Curve Actions & Modifiers section.
Mask
Apply a mask to all edges attached to the clicked point.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: Hold Alt/Option and click to unmask.
Move
Move all points within the Draw Size radius, similar to the Move brush in sculpting. The movement direction depends on the viewport camera's orientation relative to the model.
Move Modifiers
Control how selected points move within the Draw Size radius. These settings adjust movement relative to the screen's working plane, influence interactions with surrounding topology, and enforce or turn off symmetry. Fine-tuning these parameters allows for precise point adjustments while preserving smooth transitions and structural integrity.
Movement
Controls how the selected point moves relative to the screen's working plane.
-
Free Move: Allows unrestricted movement in any direction.
-
Snap to Surface: Constrains movement to the surface of the model.
Attraction
Determine how the movement interacts with the surrounding topology.
-
Valence: Adjusts movement behavior based on the number of connected edges at the selected point. This setting may influence how points shift while preserving edge flow and maintaining surface integrity.
-
Attraction Valence (Valence only): Defines the degree to which surrounding topology influences the movement of a selected point. A lower value allows for more independent movement, while a higher value causes movement to be influenced more by adjacent geometry, helping maintain smoother transitions across the surface.
-
None: Moves the point without affecting connected geometry.
Force Symmetrical
Control how symmetry works during movement.
-
On: Ensures symmetrical movement across the model.
-
Off: Allows asymmetric movement.
QMesh
Like Point Action Extrude, this action extrudes the target point into a pyramidal shape while snapping and fusing the extruded surface to adjacent polygons if applicable.
-
While dragging a point, hold the Cmd/Ctrl-modifier to convert the QMesh action into a Move action.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: Tap Alt/Option to change the Polygroup assigned to the new polygons while dragging a point.
QMesh Modifiers
Control how points extrude and interact with surrounding topology. These settings determine the number of extrusion steps before reaching full height, allowing for gradual or immediate elevation changes. Control how the extruded geometry integrates with existing topology by adjusting alignment and step divisions, ensuring a seamless and efficient modeling workflow.
Align
Controls the number of extrusion steps before reaching maximum height.
-
Full Step: Extrudes the point to full height in a single step.
-
Half Step: Divide the extrusion into two equal steps.
-
Quarter Step: Break the extrusion into four smaller steps.
Slice Mesh
Slice Mesh allows precise topology control by slicing through polygons, edges, or points. This action lets users define new geometry flow for more controlled modeling and polygon construction.
Slice Mesh Modifiers
Adjust how the sliced edges behave within the topology, offering better visibility and control over the generated geometry.
Crease Edges
-
On: Enables creasing on the sliced edges, making them more visually distinct and maintaining sharper edges when using Dynamic or Subdivision smoothing.
-
Off: Keeps the sliced edges uncreased, allowing them to blend naturally with surrounding topology when subdivided.
Slide
Slides the target point(s) along connected edges. The draw size radius defines the number of points affected by the slide. Set the Draw Size to 1 to move a single point.
Shift-modifier: Hold Shift to slide the point free from connected edges while maintaining alignment with the surrounding edges while sliding.
Split
Dragging a point creates a circular inset of polygons centered on the target point.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: Tap Alt/Option to change the Polygroup assigned to the split point polygons while dragging a point.
Split Modifiers
Control how the generated geometry is structured when creating a circular inset around a point. These settings define the center topology, creasing, Polygroups, and point distribution, ensuring precise control over the split operation.
Center
Control the polygon's shape at the split center.
-
Keep Quad: Maintains quad-based topology at the split center.
-
Triangulate: Allows triangles to form at the split center.
Crease Ring
Determines whether the split edges receive creasing.
-
On: Applies creasing to the generated edges.
-
Off: Leaves the split edges uncreased.
Regroup Ring
Defines whether the new split geometry receives a new polygroup.
-
On: Assigns a new polygroup to the split geometry.
-
Off: Retains the existing polygroup structure.
Equalize Radius
Adjusts the placement of points to form a circular shape.
-
On: Modifies the points to fit a circular shape better.
-
Off: Keeps the original placement without adjustments.
Stitch
Welds two clicked points together. Stitch modifiers determine the weld location To the End Point, To the Mid Point, or To Start Point.
Stitch Modifiers
Stitch Modifiers control how selected points merge when performing a weld operation. These settings define the alignment of the welded points, determining whether they move to a specific endpoint, a midpoint, or the original starting point.
Align
-
To End Point: Welds the first point to the second point's position.
-
To Mid Point: Merges both points at a midpoint between them.
-
To Start Point: Welds the second point to the first point's position.
Transpose
Masks all but the selected target point and activates Gizmo3D, which snaps to the point's center and aligns with its surface normal.
-
Alt/Option-modifier: Masks only the selected target point and activates Gizmo3D similarly.
