Step Field Layer

What is it about?

This page covers the Step Field layer in Cinema 4D. It assigns ascending 0–1 values across numbered clones or points — the Field counterpart to the Step Effector for index-based gradients.

The Step Field should always be used if values are to grow in sequence.

The Step Layer generates values between 0 and 1, which can be mixed with other fields and modifier layers in the corresponding field lists (e.g. for effectors or deformers).

These values are assigned to the (internally) numbered clones/points etc. in ascending order.

The field does not work for elements that do not have a number (e.g. standard particles).

Example

In this example, a Step Field Layer in a Plain effector ( Time Offset parameter) ensures that the animation of the cloned source object is assigned to each clone with a time offset.
