Index Array From String

What is it about?

This page documents the Index Array From String node of the Scene Nodes system in Cinema 4D. It builds an integer array from a typed list of values — the quick way to hand-pick component indices for selections.

There are some situations where you may only want to store a few values in an array. Consider, for example, the selection of just a few points, edges or polygons of which you know the indices. For these purposes, the corresponding values can simply be written in a text field separated by commas or dashes and the Node automatically generates an array from this. You can connect this directly to Selection inputs, for example, in order to apply modeling commands only to individual elements of a geometry.
The different requirements, e.g. for a point or polygon selection on the one hand and an edge selection on the other, can also be taken into account automatically.

Whenever individual arrays are required, e.g. to create a selection, the Index Array from String Node is a good choice. Here you can also work with abbreviations, such as a hyphen, to output contiguous indices as arrays.
