Target xpression
This page documents the Target Expression tag in Cinema 4D. It keeps an object's Z-axis pointed at a linked target — the quick way to make cameras or spotlights follow a moving subject without manual rotation keyframes.
You can use this expression to automatically align corresponding objects to another object. From the Object Manager, drag the target object to which the aligning object should point with its Z-axis into the Target Object field. The decisive factor here is the origin of the Target Object. When moving the Target Object (moving with the mouse in the editor, animation, etc.), the aligning object will always point to it.
Example
In the following scene, the objects with the Z-axis of the parent null object always align themselves with the rotating, gray cone.
