Forces

The settings of this tab apply to the new Simulation System.

Everything you need to know about these two aerodynamic settings can be found in the Rigid Body settings under Aerodynamics. These basically work the same there as here, the difference is in the change of shape:

  • Rigid Bodies do not change their shape and only react as a whole to applied forces.
  • With Cloth, the polygons can twist relative to each other, causing aerodynamic forces such as fluttering effects (e.g., flags waving in the wind) or inflating parachutes.

Drag is a force acting in the direction of the relative air speed. The Lift acts perpendicular to the polygon surface and at the same time brakes slightly. Additional details can be found under the link above.

Force objects

The simulation system supports the already known Force objects (exception: Destructor).

Here are some notes about the Force fields:

  • The Attractor object, for example, can be used for crumpling textiles.

  • The Gravity object can be used to change the direction of the gravity (it will then be added to Gravity in the simulation project settings).

  • The Reflector object only works with points that have a velocity. The velocity will then be reversed. However, as soon as points come to rest on the Reflector, this will no longer reflect. For example, if a piece of cloth comes to rest on a horizontal deflector, it will simply fall through it.

  • The Force Field object can create the most complex force directions and provides you with the powerful fields functionality.

Note that these Force objects will work somewhat differently because of the differing systems.

  • The Mode setting has no effect on any force.

  • The general Strength parameters (often called "velocity") must often be set to very high values (100, 1000 are not uncommon).

The mode can be used to include or exclude the force objects located in the following object list.

The switch to the right of each object can be used to turn the respective object's effect on or off. The chooser to the right of the list can be used to click on a Force object in the Object Manager to add it to the list.

Also note the Simulation Scenen object, where you can also turn Force objects on and off.

Note:It may happen that objects are displayed here marked in red. This is the case, for example, if the current Cloth tag is assigned to simulation scene object A and the red object simulation scene object B. This will not function then.

Pyro

If you want Cinema 4D's Pyro system to apply forces to the clothing (define a value above 0 at Fluid Force Factor ), then enable this option.
