Dynamics
The Dynamics tab's settings can be used to create numerous dynamic effects for the Motion Camera (or for the camera person who holds the camera). These effects consist mainly of damping and elastic effects in conjunction with inertia.
Imagine the camera rig as a structure with numerous joints, each of which acts like a spring (damping, stretching). The following three regions will be affected:
- Feet: For example, if the camera person walks along a Spline, these settings will define the inertia of the feet or how precisely the camera person will follow the given path.
- Head: The camera person's head and therewith the angle of view and in turn the hands will be given dynamic effects. These effects can be used to simulate imprecise movements and inertia.
- Hands: Only the hands holding the camera will be influenced dynamically. This is the mode that should be used if you want to achieve dynamic effects when switching camera targets.
Enables or disables the Dynamics function for the feet.
2 modes are available:
- Dampen: Position and/or rotational movements that would normally occur very quickly (e.g., when following a Spline path or a target change for the camera) will be dampened. This can be compared to movements when submerged in oil - short and quick movements will be smoothed over.
- Spring: Position and/or rotational movements will take place as if each joint were equipped with springs or torsion springs, i.e., the movement(s) will rebound.
Use these settings to define the degree of damping for rotations or movements. Larger values produce correspondingly softer and less spontaneous movements.
These settings will be displayed if Mode is set to Spring. These values define the inertia of the oscillating object. Larger values will produce correspondingly slower oscillations. Oscillations that fade out can be created in conjunction with higher Damp values.

Enables or disables the Distance function. If you modify the Distance value, this setting can be used to create damping (e.g., delayed focus) and focal variation effects.
2 modes are available:
Refocusing will occur smoothly, not abruptly - as if the lens mechanism were drenched in oil.
The focus mechanism will hover around its newly defined value.
Use this setting to define the change in focus. Large values will produce correspondingly softer and less spontaneous changes.
The larger this value is, the greater the focus overshoot will be. This can often be seen in amateur films in which the camera operator has problems focusing on moving objects or when pointing the camera at a new subject. The focus is then adjusted too quickly and will overshoot its intended range. This is the effect that you can fine-tune using the Inertia setting.
