What is Cinema 4D?

Maxon Cinema 4D (C4D) is a professional 3D software solution primarily used for modeling, animation, simulation, and rendering. It is one of the established tools in the media and creative industries and is characterized by a user-friendly interface and tight integration with other applications, such as Adobe products, leading 3D, CAD and architectural applications, game engines, and, of course, the many other market-leading products developed in-house, such as ZBrush, Red Giant, and Autograph.

Typical applications:

  1. Motion Design & Broadcast
    • Creation of animated graphics for TV, advertising, or social media
    • Title animations, logos, infographics
  2. Film & VFX (Visual Effects)

    • Integrate 3D elements into live-action film
    • Explosions, particle simulations, digital environments
    • Example: CGI effects in TV series, commercials, or indie films
  3. Product visualization

    • Photorealistic product renderings without a photo shoot
    • Example: Renderings of smartphones, furniture, or cars for marketing
  4. Architectural visualization

    • Visualizing buildings and interiors
    • Example: 3D virtual tours of planned real estate projects
  5. Games & Real-time content (e.g., using a game engine such as Unreal via Maxon Cineware)

    • Creation of assets (models, animations) for game engines
    • Example: Props or characters for Unreal
  6. VR/AR & interactive Media

    • Preparing content for immersive applications

What is Redshift?

Maxon Redshift is a powerful 3D rendering software that helps visualize your 3D designs, models, animations, and scenes. It is tightly integrated into Cinema 4D and is included as a modern rendering engine by default.

By simulating realistic lighting, textures, and effects, Maxon Redshift transforms 3D design into high-quality animations or images. Its GPU-accelerated engine lets you achieve photorealistic details, fast feedback, and reduced rendering times.

Since Maxon Redshift is also available as a rendering engine for many other applications, it can be used to implement cross-application workflows.

What is Cinebench?

Maxon Cinebench is a free benchmarking tool designed to measure the performance of a computer using real-world 3D rendering workloads derived from Cinema 4D and Maxon Redshift. In this process, the included projects are rendered by Cinebench with various methods (CPU and GPU) to determine the time required to complete them.
The values obtained in this way allow for a realistic comparison of different rendering platforms and hardware configurations.
Maxon Cinebench can be downloaded here for free.
