Turn

Mix[0..100%]

Use this percentage value to control the effect of the modifier on the particles. At 0% the particles remain unaffected and at 100% the full effect of the modifier is transferred to the particles. Intermediate values lead to a corresponding mixture of the current particle property and modifier property

Mode

The modifier has two different operating modes:

  • Set: The particles are immediately redirected according to the following direction specification. The change of direction can only be slowed down by reducing the Mix value, so that smoother curves are possible instead of a hard turn. However, the following mode is particularly suitable for smoother curves.
  • Turn: A specific Angle can be defined here that is applied to the particles Per Frame or Per Second in order to achieve the change in direction defined below. If, for example, the X-axis is defined as the new Direction for a particle stream flying along the Z-axis, the specification of Angle 5° in conjunction with Per Frame can be used to ensure that the particles require 18 animation images (90° between Z- and X-axis divided by the Angle 5°) in order to switch completely to the new Direction.


Angle[0..180°]

This setting is only available in Turn mode and allows you to define an angle change for the flight direction. This change in direction can be transferred at different speeds using the following buttons:

  • Per Frame: The angle-direction change is transferred to the particles per animation frame until the target flight direction is reached.
  • Per Second: The angular direction change is transferred to the particles within one animation second. This is repeated until the target flight direction is reached.

Direction

Here you can select how the turning direction should be defined:

  • Axis: Select one of the common axis directions in the axis system of the particle or in the global world system.
  • Random: The turning direction will be chosen randomly by the Modifier.
  • Custom: Specify your own direction vector for the direction in which particles should turn.
  • Target: You can define any object to whose position the particles should move.

Axis

For the Axis Direction, select one of the standard axis directions along which the particles should turn. This axis can be selected via Vector Space either in the axis system of the particle or in the global world system.

Vector[XYZ ]

In Custom Direction mode, you can define your own direction vector here that shuold be used as the direction in which the particles turn. The length of this vector is irrelevant. This vector can be selected via the Vector Space setting either relative to the axis system of the particle or relative to the global world axes.

Object

In Target Direction mode, you can link to an object. The connecting line between each particle and the position of this object will be used as the turn direction.

Vector Space

The Direction in the Axis and Custom modes can be selected either relative to the axis system of the particle (Alignment) or relative to the global axis system (Global).

Spread[0..360°]

This can be used to define a maximum deviation from the set turning direction. This variation will be recalculated individually for each particle.

Spread Falloff[0..100%]

This value controls the relationship between the turning direction varied by Spread and the fixed Direction of the particles. The greater the Spread Falloff, the closer the direction of the particles will return to their normal direction. The greatest possible spread of turn directions is therefore obtained with a value of 0%.

Seed[0..2147483647]

The calculation of all randomness of the Modifier is based on this value. A change in the Seed value also leads to a recalculation of all activated variations, such as the Spread.
