Settings

Keep Bridge Open

If you open an USD file, this option will determine the following:

  • Enabled: A USD Bridge will be established, which makes it possible to modify the USD file. (for details see USD Bridge).
  • Disabled: The contents of the USD file will be imported normally, as would also be the case for foreign formats, modifications will then also be saved as a Cinema 4D scene file.

Cameras

The enabled option will import cameras present in the USD scene. The common camera parameters such as projection type, focal width, focal distance, clipping, f-stop, etc., will be assumed.

Geometry

Activate this option if you want to import geometry that is saved in the USD file. Several simple object types such as Cube,  Sphere, Cone, etc., will be imported into Cinema 4D as Primitives.

Meshes will be imported as triangles/quads, either with UV coordinates, Normals or Display Color.

Materials

Here you can define if the materials in the USD scene should be imported into Cinema 4D. Materials are imported as Node Materials with a correctly linked Node setup.

Instances

If there are instances in the USD file, these are also adopted as such in Cinema 4D.

Lights

Set here whether and how light sources should be imported. In Cinema 4D, the light types Point, Infinite as well as the Area types Sphere, Cylinder, Disc, Hemisphere and Object can be imported. The common settings such ad Color and Intensity will be assumed. For Redshift, the light sources are converted into the render's own light sources as far as possible.

You have the following options

  • None: no light sources are imported.
  • Nit: use this unit if the light intensity of the source file was defined in Nit (candela per square meter). This is usually the case if the USD file has been exported from Omniverse or has been optimized for Renderman. The intensity of Cinema 4D's standard light source can be adjusted in the Photometric tab, with Intensity in the General tab serving as a multiplier (also applies to the next option, Candela).
  • Candela: use this unit if the light intensity (of the output file) has been defined in candela. This is normally the default.
  • Legacy Intensity: select this option if the USD file was created in Cinema 4D R25 or R24.
